Seminar on ‘Bhaskaracharya’s Mathematics and Astronomy and the aftermath’
Chandigarh, February 22, 2019: Department of Physics, Panjab University, Chandigarh hosted a seminar on ‘Bhaskaracharya’s Mathematics and Astronomy and the aftermath’ by Prof.M.S.Sriram, former faculty at University of Madras, Chennai and presently president of Prof.K.V.Sarma Research Foundation, here today. The exposition of Indian Astronomer and mathematician, Bhaskarachraya’s original results in Astronomy, including the ‘Calculus’ concepts were well elucidated. Bhaskara explained and demonstrated his results in detail in his own commentaries on his works which reveals his scientific method of investigations. Prof.Sriram outlined the importance of these results and subsequent important developments in Indian mathematics and astronomy, particularly in Kerala during 14th to 17 centuries, Prof.Sriram is a theoretical physicist by training and worked in areas of high energy physics. He has been working in the field of Indian Astronomy and mathematics for more than 25 years and is a co-author of important texts of the Kerala school of Astronomy and mathematics, currently working on Bhaskara’s works.
