Seminar on dowry prohibition act and initiations towards simple marriages
The purpose of the seminar was to create awareness
Jalandhar: Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar organised a seminar on “Dowry Prohibition Act and Initiations Towards Simple Marriages” as the part of the week long (i.e. 2 March to 8 March) Punjab Government’s celebration of International Woman’s Day.
The purpose of the seminar was to create awareness and to promote thinking regarding pertinent women issues. The chief guest on the occasion was Mr. Amrik Singh, Child Development Project Officer with Department of Social Security, Women and Child Development.
The main speaker on the occasion was Ms Ramanpreet Kaur, Creative Advisor to the above mentioned department. She emphasised the need for gender equality in every section as well as facet of society. Around one fifty students got themselves registered for the seminar.
Principal Dr. G.S. Samra applauded the team of Grievance Redressal Cell for their efforts and their collaboration with Department of Social Security, Women and Child Development, Punjab Government. Speaking on the occasion, he gave open invitation to the Department of Social Security, Women and Child Development to make such ventures an annual feature. He also declared that he will make consistent efforts to forge a gendered equal world. He also encouraged the female students to be brave, break their shells and lead a life full of confidence.
After the seminar, Nukad Natak, related to women issues was also enacted by the college students. The teaches present on the occasion were Dr. Gagandeep Kaur (Convener, Grievance Redressal Cell), Prof. Jasreen Kaur, Prof. Prab Dyal, Prof. Jaswinder Kaur, Prof. Arunjit Kaur, Prof. Suman Chopra, Prof. Navdeep Kaur , Dr. Manmeet Sodhi and other faculty members.
