Seminar on theme Sacrifices of Unsung Patriots of Punjab in India's Freedom Struggle
Department of History, Lyallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar organised a two day seminar on the theme Sacrifices of Unsung Patriots of Punjab in India's Freedom Struggle in collaboration with the ICSSR Chandigarh.
Jalandhar, March 17, 2023: Department of History, Lyallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar organised a two day seminar on the theme Sacrifices of Unsung Patriots of Punjab in India's Freedom Struggle in collaboration with the ICSSR Chandigarh. The proceedings on the opening day witnessed as the chief guest Dr. Dharamjit Singh, Vice Chancellor Sant Baba Bhag Singh University Adampur. who in his address discussed the Rowlett Act of 1919 and its impact as a historical turning point in the freedom struggle. The College Principal Prof. Jasreen Kaur welcomed the guests and hoped that the seminar would fulfill its objective effectively.
Dr. Anju Suri, Dean Faculty of Arts, Panjab University, Chandigarh, in her address related the establishment, promotion, propagation and achievements of Gadar Party with the life story of Baba Sohan Singh Bhakna, the founder of Ghadar Party. Dr. Rajeev Lochan, Panjab University, Chandigarh described the sacrifices of the marginalized freedom fighters as the backbone of the freedom struggle, without which the achievement of freedom was impossible.
Other speakers in the event included Dr. Gopal Singh Buttar, former Head of Punjabi Department of Lyallpur Khalsa College, Kulwinder Kaur Buttar former Producer Jalandhar Doordarshan, Dr. Rajwinder Kaur from Chandigarh University and Prof. Manish Singh from DAV College, Amritsar. The seminar convener Dr. Karanbir Singh, informed that the seminar aimed at bringing to foreground rather unseen facets of the Ghadar movement The occasion was witnessed by the presence of heads of various departments, teachers and a large number of students. Vote of Thanks on this occasion was presented by Dr. Suman Chopra, head of the History Department Dr. Amandeep Kaur conducted the stage well. On this occasion an exhibition of photographs of freedom struggle of India by Mrs. Balwinder Kaur and Mr. Sita Ram Bansal was also organized.
