Seminar on “Waste segregation and Waste Disposal” held in Doaba College
Doaba College’s Eco club and NSS Unit of college organized a seminar on “Waste segregation and Waste Disposal” under the aegis of Govt. of India and Punjab Govt’s inititative - “Swachhta Hi Sewa”. This abhiyan is a ‘Jan Andolan’ initiated by Govt. of India.
Jalandhar, October 16, 2023: Doaba College’s Eco club and NSS Unit of college organized a seminar on “Waste segregation and Waste Disposal” under the aegis of Govt. of India and Punjab Govt’s inititative - “Swachhta Hi Sewa”. This abhiyan is a ‘Jan Andolan’ initiated by Govt. of India.
The theme of this abhiyan for the year 2023 is “Garbage Free India”. Principal Dr. Pardeep Bhandari, Dr. Ashwani Kumar & Dr. Shivika Datta- Coordinators welcomed the key speakers Dr. Navneet Bhullar, Ms Saroj Kapoor, Bharat Bansal and Pyare Mohan.
Principal Dr. Pardeep Bhandari motivated students to keep the campus and their surroundings clean. Thereafter, Dr. Navneet Bhullar, a global health doctor and founder of the organization AGAPP (Action Group Against Plastic Pollution) delivered a talk on ban on single use plastic. She also explained how microplastics are invading our health systems.
Saroj Kapoor, common facilitator, MCJ explained the need of waste segregation and waste management. The event was forwarded with the motivational speech of Mr. Bharat Bansal, Program manager of Reap Benefit foundation.
Preetkiran, smart city fellow introduced the group “Bibia di Hatti” to the participants. She gave the information about self help group in Jalandhar who are actively working on the recycling of textiles waste and help the poor women by providing them a source of income.
Madhuri and Rekha from self-help group also shared their journey of upcycling the textile waste into useful products and earning their livelihood from it. After that a declamation contest and a competition on Best out of waste was organized.
Priyanka from BSc BEd Sem III, Ishita from BSc. Medical Sem III and Nitish from BCA Sem V were adjudged as first, second and third respectively in declamation. Bhavleen from Bsc IT Sem V, Babita from Bsc IT Sem III and Namrata from BCA Sem V bagged the first, second and third positions respectively in Best out of waste.
The event culminated with the vote of thanks by Dr. Ashwani Kumar, Coordinator of Ecoclub.
