Seminar-Women Empowerment Day celebrated by ICSSR NWRC in collaboration with University Business School, PU
Chandigarh, March 8, 2022: ICSSR NWRC in collaboration with University Business School, Panjab University organized a Seminar on “Women Empowerment” with Ms. Bhawna Garg, IAS, and Dr. Rajinder Kaur, IRS on the occasion of International Women’s Day. Ms. Bhawna Garg is Deputy Director-General in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, UIDAI, and Dr. Rajinder Kaur is Additional Commissioner of Income Tax. The session was well organized by the Business Club under the guidance of Prof. Purva Kansal and director ICSSR Prof. Sanjay Kaushik.
Ms. Bhawna Garg is the first woman to get First Rank in All Indi Civil Service Examination in 2001. She is also the Gold Medalist for best performance in extra-curricular activities during her professional training at Lal Bahadur Shastri Academy of Administration.
Dr. Rajinder Kaur is an IRS officer from the batch of 2002 where she was an all India 56th rank. Throughout her service, she has been rated as outstanding in all annual appraisals. She also attended mid-career at Duke University, California, and OCED Seminar at Kuala Lumpur in 2014 and 2017 respectively.
Dr. Rajinder addressed the students as young and bright students and shared her life learnings that can be implemented in near future. She mentioned the importance of Physical and Mental Health, Emotional Health, and the Economic well-being of an individual. She addressed the importance of the contribution of an individual to society and advised students to be aware of the government schemes and norms of the nation. She shared the importance of books in life.
Ms. Bhawna Garg shared about her personal life and addressed the gender bias issues in society. She highlighted the importance of healthy competition and advised the students to grow with the competition.
She believes that success is not always an individual effort, it is a blessing. The concentration and intensity you put into work are of utter importance.
She quoted “It is not the physical appearance of women that is celebrated, it is about celebrating the feminine traits of a person.”
She concluded the session by highlighting the importance of balanced life, the bonds and connection with people and nature, and the creativity that comes along with it.
