Sensitisation Poster Release on Transgender Welfare and Launch of Weblink of Permanent Anti-Discrimination Cell for Transgender Students, Panjab University ,Chandigarh
Chandigarh, August 16, 2024: Sensitisation Poster Release on Transgender Welfare and Launch of Weblink of Permanent Anti-Discrimination Cell for Transgender Students, Panjab University ,Chandigarh.
The Vice-Chancellor Professor Renu Vig of Panjab University, Chandigarh launched the weblink of Permanent Anti-Discrimination Cell for the Transgender Students as well as released the posters related to Welfare of the Transgenders. The Vice-Chancellor informed the university has been undertaken some of the pioneer efforts to ensure inclusivity of the trans students such as grant of concession full fee/tuition fee and examination fee to transgender students. She also shared Panjab University is committed to the cause of inclusive education for transgenders.
Prof. Rumina Sethi , The Dean University of Instructions shared that from the academic session 2024-25 onwards one additional seat for transgenders has been created in each course in all teaching departments, Panjab University Regional Centres, Constituent Colleges and Colleges affiliated with Panjab University.
The Registrar, Panjab University, Chandigarh also member of the Transgender Welfare Board , Chandigarh Administration stated the creation of weblink of the Transgender Cell is a step towards wider dissemination about welfare measures for trans students already enrolled or prospective students seeking admission in university.
The Dean Student Welfare, Prof. Simrat Kahlon informed that university endeavours to provide hostel accommodation at the campus for trans students and is making concerted efforts in this regard.
Dr. Upneet Kaur Mangat , Coordinator of The Permanent Anti-Discrimination Cell for Transgender Students , Panjab University informed that the Cell has been operational since 2023. She also highlighted the trans students can also avail opportunities under Earn While You Learn Scheme offered by various departments of Panjab University. She also informed that thecontent development of sensitisation posters and badge creation was done by Ms. Kavita, Research Scholar and Student Coordinator of Legal Aid Clinic of Centre for Human Rights and Duties, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
The former transgender students of Centre for Human Rights and Duties, Panjab University Mx. Dhananjay Chauhan and Mx.Yashika present on the occasion lauded the welfare steps being undertaken by Panjab University for ensuring inclusive environment for transgender students which could be a way forward for other universities across India.
The event was well attended byformer and current members of the Permanent Anti-Discrimination Cell for Transgender Students including Prof.Namita Gupta (Director Public Relations) , Dr.Rajesh Kumar , Dr.Naveen Kumar, Dr.Nishima Wangoo, Dr. Amritpal Kaur, and Dr.Harbhinder Singh as well as former transgender students and students of Panjab University.
