Ludhiana, January 11, 2019: FICO President S.Gurmeet Singh Kular along with Sh.Rajeev Jain Secretary FICO attended the session on Benefits of Cycling in India (An Economic Environmental & Social Assessment). Shri Suresh Prabhu, Minister of Commerce & Industry and Civil Aviation, Government of India was the chief guest on the occasion along with Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister of State in Ministry of Water Resources, Government was the Guest of Honor,
On the occasion Shri Suresh Prabhu Union Minister Presented the report of TERI (The Energy & Resource Institute) on Benefits of Cycling in India (An Economic Environmental & Social Assessment), where he discussed the numerous benefits of cycling including the Non Carbon Emissions of cycling and hence providing an environmental friendly transportation medium, moreover the more will be the cyclists the less will be the traffic congestion on road, he said the government is very seriously thinking about increasing the cycling culture in India, and for that government is working with the urban planning commission to introduce the cycling lanes in the cities of India, which would ensure the safety of the cyclist. He also demanded that the bicycle industry & the bicycle industrial association should contribute more in increasing the cycling trends in India.
Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister of Water Resources, India said that he is the first person in the Indian parliament who comes and goes by a cycles, even his security personals also travel by cycles. He said that in today’s meeting also he came by a cycle. He discussed the various health benefits of cycling and said that cycling increases your cardiovascular fitness, joint mobility, muscle strength and flexibility. He further said that in Europeans countries most of the people travel by the cycle. He insisted that in India also we should increase the cycling trends, so that more people may have sound health.
