The incident of gang rape in a bus in Delhi has really shocked everybody. This incident has raised a question in the minds of the females with regard to their safety and security in Metropolitan cities.

What I feel is that women’s safety and security is need of the hour. I agree to the agitation being staged by the students’ community in Delhi seeking stringent laws against heinous crimes such as rapes and gang rapes. Everybody has fundamental right of expression and speech.

At the same time, it may also be kept in mind that agitations must be carried on in a disciplined manner. It is said that police resorted to the use of cane charge, cannon water and tear gas on the agitating students in Delhi.  Police resorted to such acts following the agitating students getting furious.

It would have been better if senior leaders of various political parties would have joined the agitating students to give proper guidance to the agitating students. Agitating students should have been assured of the government action on their demands.

The government should set up Fast Track Courts to deal with the rape cases. The judgment be done within stipulated period. The accused in rape cases be given capital punishment. Besides, the government must take all measures to check recurrence of incidents. Both the Centre and the States should chalk out a strategy for ensuing complete security and safety to women.
