Chandigarh, May 29, 2024: A seven-day international workshop on Recent trends in nutrigenomics and food technology was kickstarted at the Department of Biotechnology, Panjab University Chandigarh (May 29 to June 4, 2024).
The Ministry of Education sponsored the workshop under SPARC program with the collaboration of McGill University Canada and the Central University of Haryana, Mahendragarh.
The Principal Investigator Prof Kashmir Singh welcomed the Guests, speaker and participants and introduced the theme of workshop. Registrar Prof YP Verma in his inaugural address highlighted the importance of the topic, especially food processing technology in the modern-day context and role of these technologies in providing quality food material to consumers and its role in the country's overall development.
Dr PK Singh Chief Scientist, CSIR-NBRI Lucknow delivered the keynote address and shared his research work in the area of plant protection from pests. He has developed Guard cotton in his lab and field trial of the crop are underway for release in the coming years. Prof HS Ramaswamy from McGill University Canada is the key resource person during the entire workshop. He will give theoretical and practical knowledge to students about post-harvest food processing technologies and their application in the food industry.
The 25 participants from various parts of the country are attending this workshop.
Prof DD Singh Chairperson Department of Biotechnology, and Co-PIs of the project Dr Santosh K Upadhyay and Dr Rupesh Deshmukh thanked all the dignitaries and participants for their active participation.
