Seven-day Vedic Mantra Recitation Workshop begins at PU
Department of Sanskrit, Panjab University while Celebrating Swami Dayanand Saraswati’s 200th birth anniversary has organised a seven-day ‘Sasvar Mantrapaath Vidhi’ workshop, where participants shall be taught the proper manner in which Vedic mantras are to be recited.
Chandigarh, September 21, 2023: Department of Sanskrit, Panjab University while Celebrating Swami Dayanand Saraswati’s 200th birth anniversary has organised a seven-day ‘Sasvar Mantrapaath Vidhi’ workshop, where participants shall be taught the proper manner in which Vedic mantras are to be recited.
The workshop began today. On the first day of the workshop, faculty members, research scholars and students participated. Instructor for the workshop Vijay Bharadwaj, who is also a faculty member at the department, began the workshop by stating the main concepts behind proper recitation of Vedic mantras. He said, “Under the celebration of the 200th birth anniversary of Swami Dayanand Saraswati by the Government of India, this workshop has been organised.” Stating the importance of intonation in the chanting of Veda mantras, he said, “with the change in intonation of Vedic words, there is a change in their meanings, due to which there is a need to learn the Vedic recitation with intonation.”
Academic incharge of the department Prof. V. K. Alankar said, “by this seven-day workshop, participants will learn the traditional system of Vedic mantra recitation”.
