Several new green belts and leisure valleys in more than 50 acres have been developed in Ludhiana

Ludhiana, August 19, 2021: Punjab Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu today said that for increasing green cover and contributing in saving our environment, several new green belts and leisure valleys have already been developed on more than 50 acres of area in Ludhiana city alone, while many more are either under construction or in pipeline.

While reviewing the progress of Ludhiana's various developmental projects under Smart City, National Clean Air Programme and Ludhiana Improvement Trust, the Cabinet Minister directed the officials to ensure timely completion of all the ongoing projects and reiterated that there should be no compromise when it comes to quality standards.

The review meeting was held at MC Zone D office, here today, and was attended by Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu, LIT Chairman Raman Balasubramaniam, MC Councillor Mamta Ashu, MC Commissioner Pardeep Kumar Sabharwal, besides several officials.

During the meeting, the Cabinet Minister said that dedicated efforts are being made to increase green cover in the city. He also directed MC officials to undertake a massive plantation drive on vacant land in the city for making Ludhiana greener.

He said that a green belt has been developed in the Sidhwan Canal waterfront project, a leisure valley has been developed opposite DAV Public School in Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar along with several other green belts and parks in the area, another leisure valley on 6 acre land is under construction in Haibowal, a leisure valley in Ludhiana (East), green belts are being developed properly on both sides of old GT Road, starting from Sherpur Chowk till Jalandhar Byepass chowk, to name a few.

Bharat Bhushan Ashu directed the officials to personally monitor the progress of all the ongoing development projects. He also directed that proper mapping of existing sewer lines should be done so that it helps in maintaining them effectively. He also directed that for optimum utilisation, all MC vehicles should be fitted with GPS devices.

He also directed the officials to expedite the execution of development projects including laying of new Athletics Track in Guru Nanak Stadium, all existing sports facilities, to name a few.

Bharat Bhushan Ashu stated that he has been personally monitoring the progress of all the projects of Ludhiana on weekly basis and warned that strict action would be taken against officials if there is any lapse on their behalf.

He further said that under the visionary and dynamic leadership of the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, the state government is committed to giving a fillip to the projects under various schemes and the Smart City program. He said that the work on these projects would be completed soon to ensure that city residents are benefitted from it. He expressed hope that an era of unprecedented development and prosperity would usher in Ludhiana with these development projects.
