SGPC polls- ADC directs department heads to enrol eligible employees as voters
The Additional District Election Officer cum Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Major Amit Sareen conducted a meeting with the heads of various government departments. He instructed them to register eligible employees under their authority as voters for the upcoming Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) elections.
Ludhiana, August 8, 2024: The Additional District Election Officer cum Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Major Amit Sareen conducted a meeting with the heads of various government departments. He instructed them to register eligible employees under their authority as voters for the upcoming Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) elections.
During the meeting, Sareen conveyed that the Gurdwara Election Commission (GEC) has extended the voter enrolment deadline to September 16. He emphasized the importance of enrolling eligible employees and asked the departments' heads to raise awareness among the eligible individuals so they can register themselves. Voter registration forms were distributed to the department heads.
Additionally, Sareen urged officials to organize voter sensitization campaign in colleges and universities to enrol eligible voters.
It's important to note that only Keshdhari Sikhs are eligible to register as voters, while those who trim or shave their beards, smoke, or drink alcohol are not eligible. The registration process will continue until September 16, followed by the preparation and printing of voter lists from September 17, 2024, to October 8, 2024. The preliminary e-roll will be published on October 9, 2024, with the last date for receipt of claims and objections being October 29, 2024. The final publication of the voters' list is scheduled for November 26, 2024.
