Dharamshala, June 14, 2024: In a sharp response to former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah's call for India to initiate talks with Pakistan, former Union Minister Shanta Kumar criticized Abdullah for repeatedly urging India to engage in dialogue while failing to press Pakistan to cease its terrorist activities. Kumar emphasized that meaningful discussions cannot occur until Pakistan halts its support for terrorism, noting Abdullah's omission of this crucial demand.
In a press release issued today, Shanta Kumar expressed his dismay over the ongoing terrorist threats posed by Pakistan, citing a recent attack on a bus carrying innocent civilians and devotees. He reiterated India's stance that terrorism and dialogue cannot coexist, highlighting the continuous security challenges India faces due to Pakistan's actions.
Kumar further argued that to effectively eliminate terrorism in Kashmir, control of the entire border should be transferred to the army, granting them full authority to eradicate terrorist activities. He described Pakistan's actions as a covert war, stating that the military is best equipped to combat this proxy conflict and ensure lasting peace in the region.
