Dharamshala, January 7, 2025: The Himachal Pradesh Government’s proposal to shift the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) office from Shimla to Dharamshala has received enthusiastic support from the Hotel and Restaurant Association Smart City Dharamshala (HRAD).

Sanjeev Gandhi, General Secretary of HRAD and a member of the Eco Tourism Society, hailed the decision as a milestone for Kangra’s development. Speaking to the media, he said, “This is a commendable move by the Himachal Pradesh government under the leadership of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. It will significantly bolster efforts to establish Kangra as the tourism capital of the state.”

Gandhi highlighted several key projects already planned or underway in the Kangra region, which collectively have a budget of over ₹2,415 crores. These projects include:
Development of an International Airport in Dharamshala,
An International Zoo at Bankhandi,
Introduction of water sports at Pong Dam,
Roller-skating rinks in Dharamshala,
Beautification projects in Nagrota Bagwan and Palampur,
Wellness centers,
New eco-tourism policies, and other initiatives.

He emphasized that relocating the HPTDC office to Dharamshala would help accelerate the completion of these projects.

“Kangra has historically been a significant attraction for both domestic and international tourists due to its rich cultural heritage, scenic beauty, and enormous tourism potential,” Gandhi said. He added that strengthening Kangra’s infrastructure would further enhance its appeal to all types of travelers.

Gandhi also proposed shifting other major state department offices to central locations across Himachal Pradesh. “Decentralization will help reduce congestion in Shimla and foster economic growth in other regions,” he explained.

Expressing excitement, Gandhi said, “The Hotel and Restaurant Association Smart City Dharamshala and its members fully support this initiative. We are committed to working hand-in-hand with the Sukhu-led government to achieve the desired results.”
