“Shishu Memorial Lecture” in commemoration of Late Professor Shishu organized by UIPS, PU
University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS) organized the second ‘Shishu Memorial Lecture’ to commemorate Late Professor Shishu, on 3rd May. Dr Shishu was an alumnus of UIPS (B.Pharm. (1987); M.Pharm. (1989) and Ph.D (2002) who later joined as Professor of Pharmaceutics at UIPS in the year 1991.
Chandigarh, May 4, 2023: University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS) organized the second ‘Shishu Memorial Lecture’ to commemorate Late Professor Shishu, on 3rd May. Dr Shishu was an alumnus of UIPS (B.Pharm. (1987); M.Pharm. (1989) and Ph.D (2002) who later joined as Professor of Pharmaceutics at UIPS in the year 1991.
Professor Indu Pal Kaur, Chairperson, UIPS commenced the event by reminiscencing fond memories of Professor Shishu, in which she highlighted her sincere contribution to the pharmacy profession and revisited her through the lens of her loved ones by sharing the glimpses and messages received from her batchmates, colleagues and students. She beautifully expressed her heartfelt views for Professor Shishu and also gave an overview about the genesis of the endowment fund Shishu Memorial Lecture series created by Late Prof. Darshan Singh, a renowned Punjabi litterateur, a Panjab University faculty and syndic, and father of Professor Shishu. She thanked all the dignitaries, family members and colleagues to have been a part of the event. She also remembered the beautiful soul and appreciated her positive outlook towards life, her dedication towards her profession despite her illness, as known from the commemorations.
Professor Rumina Sethi, Dean of University Instruction, Panjab University presided over the event. She very expressively connected her forte with the topic of the lecture. She very gracefully amalgamated the science and language department keeping in view the NEP 2020.
The invited speaker Professor Mandip Singh Sachdeva, Professor and Section Leader, FAMU College of Pharmacy, Tallahassee, FL, USA delivered the talk on “CARP-1 mimetics in overcoming resistance in lung cancer.” He highlighted the role of lipidic nanoparticles of anti-cancer drugs as therapeutics for treatment of lung cancer. Further in his informative talk, he explained the role of exosomes in tumor progression and biomarker detection. With his vast experience in the field, he elaborated that all the genetic information is contained in exosomes, communicating cells; they can mimic natural delivery systems in humans. He aptly emphasized the significance of the combination of the selected drugs telmisartan (pretreaten) alongwith CFA and Osimertinib. His talk was very informative and illuminating in the field of cancer research.
The lecture was quite enlightening for the budding minds of UIPS and also the most justified tribute to the late faculty.
Professor Poonam Piplani, Dean, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, delivered the concluding remarks.
Around 200 participants joined the event and included family members, alumni, students and researchers.
