Shoe Merchants to intensify agitation

Ferozepur, September 16, 2012:  All Punjab Shoe Merchants Association, Feozepur City and Cantt observed complete bandh and protest march was carried through the bazaars with shouting against the anti-shoe merchants policies of the government.

In this protest, the traders of all categories participated and presented a memorandum to the deputy commissioner in the name of Parkash Singh Badal, chief minister, Punjab for levying of 13 per cent VAT and 10 per cent surcharge tax on the price of all types of shoes above Rs.250.

The leaders of the Shoe Merchants Association said that they are already depositing the due VAT with the government and by levying of new tax, about 20,000 people will be badly affected.  They warned the government that in case their demands are not met immediately, they will intensify their agitation by calling indefinite strike in the state.
