SIERRA LEONE: Kabbadi to be in sports calendar of schools/colleges

Amritsar/Chandigarh, December 4, 2012:  The mother game of Punjabis, Kabbadi will shortly be entered in the sports calendar of schools and colleges of Sierra Leone.

This was disclosed by Manager of Sierra Leone Kabbadi team.

He said, “After visualising the popularity of Kabbadi in Sierra Leone, the Sports Minister of the country has assured us to accord recognition to Kabbadi by inducting it into the sports calendar of the schools and colleges of that country.”

Ravinder Singh Jassal, Manger of Sierra Leone Kabbadi team and President, Kabaddi Federation said that after the hard practice of one year, the team has been constituted, which is now fully prepared to show its might.

Gurmail Singh Dirbha, the coach of the team who played a pivotal role in raising the Sierra Leone’s Kabbadi team, said that many players of the team have come from other sports.

“The captain of the team Mohammad Kandey is in the army, whereas many other players are working as Bouncers in the sports clubs of that county”, he added. Dirbha said that before embracing Kabbadi, these players used to play Weight Lifting, Volley Ball and Body Building. He further said that the players in Sierra Leone’s Kabbadi team are from Muslim and Christian’s fraternity. He said that although the teams has lost its first match in the hand of Pakistan, but the team is banking on its fitness and would play its best in the next game.
