The outgoing president of the United Cycle and Parts Manufacturers Association (UCPMA), Ludhiana Gurmeet Singh Kular addressing the gathering after his name was announced for the post of president again on Sunday.

Ludhiana, August 25, 2013: The outgoing president of the United Cycle and Parts Manufacturers Association (UCPMA), Ludhiana Gurmeet Singh Kular is to contest for the post of president again.
His candidature for the president's post was announced here today, in presence of several industrialists under the leadership of leading industrialist KK Seth (CMD, Neelam Cycles).
The announcement to this effect was made by Seth.
Seth also announced name of Rajeev Jain for the post of general secretary.
The house authorised both Kular and Jain to constitute a 5-members committee to declare candidates for the remaining six seats of office-bearers in association.
The elections for eight posts of office-bearers of the UCPMA are scheduled to be held on September 14. The office-bearers are elected for two years.
The association, which is the Asia’s biggest industrial association, has a total 2,215 members.
It may be mentioned here that the other faction has already declared Charanjit Singh Vishivkarma as candidate on president's post. Vishivkarma too had been the association’s president in the past.
Addressing the house today, Kular spoke of the association’s achievements in the last two years.
Kular assured of more betterment of the whole industry, if voted to power again. He claimed that the association had been succeeded in resolving several issues related to the industry in the last two years.
In his address, Seth said if their group was voted to power, the UCPMA would work for imposing safeguard duty on import of cycles and parts from China to protect the local industry. He added they would also press for abolition of 2 per cent central excise duty on bicycles. Also, they would raise the demand of setting up of another focal point for expansion of the industry.
