Six students of IIT Mandi rescued from remote location  of Parashar Lake at midnight

Dharamshala, February 18, 2019: Six students of IIT Mandi, who went on a private Sunday outing to the popular Parashar Lake, lost their way while hiking in the jungle last night while returning, with practically no mobile coverage. The Institute was alerted by one of the students on campus. The Institute acted immediately and informed the District authorities. IIT Mandi Registrar, Dr.Vishal Singh Chauhan and IIT Mandi Dean (Students), Dr.Suman Kalyan Pal, dispatched a search and rescue team led by Security Officer, Mr.Hardeep Singh and veteran mountaineers/trekkers Mr.Pavin Samuel, Deputy Administrator Students IIT Mandi, and Dr.Gaurav Bhutani, Assistant Professor & Faculty Advisor - Hiking and Trekking Club of IIT Mandi, along with some security guards.
Security Officer, Mr. Hardeep Singh said that Deputy Commissioner Mandi, Mr. Rugved Thakur, along with Sub Divisional Magistrate Mandi Dr. Madan Kumar, Superintendent of Police Mandi Mr. Gurdev Chand Sharma also dispatched two teams and an ambulance of District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) immediately. The IIT Mandi team reached the remote location at midnight and started up the snow-bound road on foot. They were joined by the DDMA team as well. The students were located at 2 am and all of them have reached campus at 4 am safely. All students are safely back in campus.
IIT Mandi thanks our faculty and staff, the DC Mandi, SDM Mandi, SP Mandi, DSP Padhar, ASI Police Chowki Incharge, Kamand and DDMA for prompt action that ensured a safe ending to an Sunday outing to the scenic and holy Parashar Lake.
