Longowal (Sangrur), October 14, 2014: The 5th season of "Efficycle 2014", a student competition by Society Of Automotive Engineers Northern India section (SAE-NIS) which tasks engineering students all over India to design and build human-powered vehicle namely “EFFICYCLE”. The main event was hosted at UIET, Chandigarh October 9-12 October 2014.
The Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering & Technology (SLIET), Longowal team “Green Rangers” under the guidance of Dr Shankar Singh, Faculty Advisor, conceptualised a green and innovative project which required designing & fabricating a three wheeled hybrid human powered vehicle, which has the capacity to act as a good viable option for local transportation.
Consequently, the SLIET team “Green Rangers” (ten team members) participated in Virtual EffiCycle 2014 at KIET Ghaziabad on June 21, 2014, and was shortlisted (90 teams out of 260 teams that participated) and qualified the virtual round. Later, the fabrication of SLIET Efficycle ‘FATEH’ (Vehicle # 72) was completed, and the team participated in the main event after testing of the Effi-Cycle.
The SLIET team under the guidance of Dr Shankar Singh, Faculty Advisor bagged the Best Design Award and cash prize Rs. 25, 000; Ist rank in Endurance Race (Durabilty Award) and a cash prize Rs. 30,000. The team was also ranked at 3rd overall winner (cash prize Rs. 50,000) out of 90 teams that participated in main event. The Captain and Vice-Captain of the team “Green Rangers” were Gurpreet Singh and Neeraj Mittal, respectively. The efficycle ‘FATEH’ was driven by riders Kulwinder Singh Lotte and Gurprreet Singh, for two hours endurance race.
