Smart solution for traffic management: MLA Gogi kick starts project to install adaptive traffic lights; Sensor based lights to regulate movement of traffic
Ludhiana, March 12, 2024: In a major relief to the residents from traffic jams, Ludhiana West MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi inaugurated the project to install sensor based smart traffic lights in the city on Tuesday. The project commenced from Hero Bakeri chowk in Sarabha Nagar.
The project - Adaptive Traffic Control System (ATCS) - is being taken up at a cost of Rs 7.48 crore under National Clean Air program (NCAP).
Under the project, the existing traffic lights would be replaced by smart traffic lights at 42 main junctions of the city.
MLA Gurpreet Gogi and MC Commissioner Sandeep Rishi stated that the sensor based traffic lights will detect the volume of traffic at the junction and will accordingly adjust the timer to ensure smooth flow of traffic at the junctions.
Further, the traffic lights would be connected with an online application and the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) of the civic body established in Zone D office in Sarabha Nagar. The civic body and traffic police would be able to control the lights online during emergencies.
This will not only provide relief from the traffic jams, but it will also help in reducing vehicular pollution as the traffic would be regulated properly and no jams would be witnessed at the junctions.
MLA Gogi said that in case of power cuts, the smart traffic lights will have an 8-hour battery backup to ensure smooth movement of traffic. The contractor is responsible for the maintenance of traffic lights for the first year after installation.
Reiterating the commitment of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led state government to develop quality infrastructure and provide relief to the residents from long pending issues, MLA Gogi said that of the total 42 locations, around three dozen locations fall under Ludhiana West constituency and this project will provide major relief to the residents from traffic jams.
MC Superintending Engineer Sanjay Kanwar, Executive Engineer Manjitinder Singh, former councillor Amrit Varsha Rampal among others were also present during the inauguration ceremony.
