Ferozepur, December 6, 2012:  A smuggler of narcotics was arrested with 7 Kg. of contraband opium, valued at Rs.5.60 lakh in the international market.

The consignment was recovered from possession the smuggler near Kohala Bridge on Mallanwala Raod.

Varinderpal Singh, SSP, Ferozepur speaking to the media persons said, “Intensifying the campaign launched by the district police team of Raghbir Singh Sandhu, SP (Detective), Ferozepur and Tejinder Singh Maur, AIG, Counter Intelligence Wing, Jalandhar and  Gurbhej Singh, in-charge CIA staff, Ferozepur, against the drug peddlers, smugglers and anti-social elements, the police got  success, on arresting Amandeep Singh alias Amna, a resident of Rukne Wala, falling under Sadar Police Station, Ferozepur on suspicious nature person”.

He further said, “On searching, the police seized 7 Kg of opium from the possession of Amandeep Singh valuing Rs.5.60 lakh in the international market and case under Sections 18, 61 and 85 of NDPS Act has been registered at the police station, Mallanwala”.

SSP also said, Maan Singh, father of Amandeep Singh is an old smuggler and is already in Sangrur jail for ten years on recovery of 12 Kg opium from him.

During interrogation, Amandeep Singh confessed that the he had brought the opium from Rajasthan, for further sale to the customers. 

The police are, however, investigating into the matter and more clues are expected in this regard, SSP added.

In reply to a question, SSP said, “Since Maan Singh, father of Amandeep Singh is already in jail at Sangrur, he must be getting a problem in getting the bail and to run this illegal business of opium, the family members have been involved.  He must be operating from the jail by contacting the parties through number of modules like PCO inside the jail or at the time of visitor.  The possibility of using the mobile of jail officials cannot be ruled out and police is minutely investigating into the matter”.

Tejinder Singh, AIG (CI), Jalanadhar said, this is his first case on taking over the new assignment and shortly another recovery would come on surface as he is already working on another plan.
