SMUGGLING OF POPPY HUSK: Police arrest 1 woman, 2 men

Ferozeur, December 8, 2012: Under the supervision of  the Narcotic Cell, Ferozepur, in-charge Hardev Singh, the  police have arrested three smugglers including a woman and recovered 240 kg poppy husk from their possession valuing Rs.4.80 lakhs.

Varinderpal Singh, SSP, Ferzepur and Raghbir Singh, SP(Detective), Ferozepur informed, the Narcotic Cell in-charge has put up a special naka near the “Sukhi Canal” and on searching of a car on stopped on suspecting something illegal material in the car, at the barrier, eight bags containing 240 kg poppy husk were found inside the car.

They further said, all the three including a woman have been arrested who have been identified as Gurnam Singh alias Nami resident of Bulla Rai Uttar, Jagga Singh resident of Chhanga Rai Uttar and Parveen Kaur alias Rani resident of Dhab Karial falling under Sadar police station, Jalalabad.

During the preliminary investigation, Gurnam Singh smuggler has admitted that he is in this business for the last 8-10 years and he used to keep Parveen Kaur with him while transporting poppy husk so that police may not suspect us. 

Hardev Singh Narcotic Cell in-charge informed that smugglers have brought this consignment from Rajasthan and was further to be sold in retail in Punjab.
