Social Outreach Program – Reproductive Health and Menstrual Hygiene Management

Chandigarh, March 8, 2022: The event was organised by University Institute of Applied Management Sciences and Centre for Social Work, Panjab University, Chandigarh in collaboration with non-government organization, People's Action for People in Need (PAPN) organized social outreach program to celebrate International Women's Day at Bhainsa Tibba in Panchkula on 8th March, 2022.
 
The event started with an interaction between the students and the staff of the organisation. Around 60 community women and adolescent girls from the nearby slum participated in the event. Dr. Manjushri Sharma, who is a clinician and Assistant Professor at UIAMS, then gave an interactive talk on importance of reproductive health and menstrual hygiene management.  This session was followed by an awareness talk by volunteers of social work course on advantages of using reusable cloth napkins as a healthier, economical, and ecologically better alternative to commercially available sanitary products. The women were also apprised of the role of balanced diet in maintaining reproductive health. An example of a model diet comprising of locally available and home grown products such as jaggery, peanuts, roasted white grams, and seasonal fruits was shared with the group of women.
