Ludhiana, October 13, 2015: The Social Thinkers forum Ludhiana in its meeting held under the presidentship of Dr Arun Mitra expressed grave concern at the efforts to spread intolerance in the country which is threatening the social harmony and the basic concept of unity in diversity of our country. Based on the vision of freedom fighters, forefathers of our country had drafted our constitution declaring India a secular democratic country with equal freedom and rights to all religious and ethnic groups. But for some time there has been concerted effort to impose homogeneous culture and weaken the pluralism of our nation. Any type of dissent is not being accepted and rational voices are being curbed. The murders of Kulbargi, Pannsare and Dabholkar and now the lynching of Akhlaq in village Bisada and manhandling of Sudhindra Kulkarni are outcome of the propaganda of hatred against others. It is a matter to seriously ponder over as to why as a mark of protest against the attacks on the freedom of expression many renowned writers have returned their precious awards .There has been effort to mix science with mythology and spread obscurantism. The posts of National importance are being saffonised. Such acts of intolerance are dangerous for the growth of peace and harmony. The forum will educate people in this regard. In this direction we will hold a seminar involving broader sections of society on 31st October. Those present in the meeting include Dr. Arun Mitra, M.S.Bhatia, Maj.(Retd) S.S.Aulakh, D.P.Maur, Ramesh Rattan, Advocate Naval Kishore Chhibber, Advocate Girish Anmol Sood, S. Ranjit Singh, S. Inderjit Singh Sodhi Advocate, Com. Gurnam Sidhu, Rajwinder Singh, Gurpreet Rattan and Advocate Rohit Chhibber.
