Social work professional must use various media tools and platforms to reach out to masses: Sunit Mukherjee

Sonepat: Media has a significant role in creating social awareness, facilitating effective community engagement on important societal issues, and educating as well as enlightening the masses. The social work professional must use various media tools and platforms to reach out to masses. Eminent Media Educator, Sunit Mukherjee stated this in a training program on ‘Social Defense issues for Social Work Educator’ organized by the Dept. of Social Work of BPSMV, Khanpur Kalan. This training program is sponsored by the National Institute of Social Defense (NISD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India.

Sunit Mukherjee in his inspiring, thought provoking address said that media must be utilized to sensitize the society about the crucial issues like the ageing populace, gender equality, Women empowerment, the need for integration of the marginalized sections of the society in the mainstream. He shared several vignettes from media, including sensitizing films & TV programs, to illustrate the significant role of media in the social sector.

The HOD Social Work, Dr. Manju Pawar welcomed the invited speaker. In the other sessions, Dilbag Singh Dahiya (DRDA, Sonepat) shared information about the government schemes in the social sector. Dean, Social Sciences Prof. Ravi Bhushan presided over the valedictory session, and underlined the importance of social work. Faculty member Gian Mehra expressed the vote of thanks. Faculty members and delegate-participants from Kurukshetra University, CDLU Sirsa, DU and Jamia Millia attended the workshop.
