Chandigarh, September 28, 2015: The Governor of Punjab,Haryana and Administrator UT Chandigarh, Prof.Kaptan Singh Solanki today released the book Historical Geography of Colonial Punjab 1849-1947 at Haryana Raj Bhawan ,authored by Dr.DS Tiwana, formerly senior faculty at the Punjab Agricultural University ,Ludhiana.
The Governor said that, Dr.Tiwana has successfully blended together the fabrics of both geography and history and the major strength of this book lies in generating huge data base on Colonial Punjab attached as attached at the appendices at the end,going to be the gold mine for those who desire to work further on Colonial Punjab.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Solanki, said that this book organized in twelve chapters is the culminationof Dr. Tiwanas ten years rigorous research work based on intensive field work conducted both in India and Pakistan. It traces the process of transformation of the landscape of pre-partition Punjab .He said the book focuses not only on the British Province of Punjab but also covers princely ruled native states, giving a total picture of Punjab in its pre-partition disposition.
Governor highly appreciated the contents of the book and said that the book was written in a language which is easy to read and understand and readers would be happy to go through its contents.
