Soon after buddha nullah level recedes, MC pumps out accumulated water from low lying areas over a night

Ludhiana, July 15, 2023: After the water level in buddha nullah started receding on Friday, Municipal Corporation (MC) pumped out the accumulated water from the low lying areas including Dhokka Mohalla, Dharampura among other areas over a night.

After pumping out the accumulated water during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, the civic body has launched an extensive cleanliness drive in the few affected areas alongside the nullah including Dhokka Mohalla to keep the residents safe from diseases.

Fogging is also being done especially in the areas situated in the vicinity of the nullah to ensure safety of residents from vector borne diseases.

Ludhiana Central MLA Ashok Prashar Pappi alongwith senior officials of MC also inspected the ongoing works in Dhokka Mohalla and adjoining areas on Saturday.

MLA Prashar and MC Commissioner Dr Shena Aggarwal stated that water accumulation was witnessed in a few low lying areas alongside nullah after the water level in the nullah rose due to excessive flow of water from upstream areas. Soon after the water level in the nullah receded, accumulated water was pumped out from the low lying areas including Dhokka Mohalla, Dharampura, a few areas on Tajpur road among others areas using pumps/disposal over a night. 

Senior officials are in the field and are monitoring the situation continuously. Chlorine tablets are also being distributed in the few affected low lying areas for providing clean drinking water to the residents. 

MLA Prashar stated that steps are also being taken to avoid waterlogging in Dhokka Mohalla and other low lying areas in future. Interactions are also being held with the public to resolve the grievances, if any. 

MC Commissioner Dr Aggarwal further stated that the concerned staff of the civic body has been directed to take up fogging in these areas on a regular basis to save residents from diseases. 

Dr Aggarwal stated that even as the water level has started to recede in the nullah, the civic body is continuously monitoring the situation. The concerned staff has been directed to continue the process of cleaning road gullies, sewer lines across the city.

While thanking the residents for their support during the challenging situation witnessed in the last few days, Dr Aggarwal stated that the civic body is determined to tackle any situation and keep the residents safe.
