Speaker Sandhwan urges farmers to stop stubble burning to protect environment

Chandigarh, October 16, 2023: Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan on Monday vehemently appealed to the farmers of the state to not burn stubble to save the environment from pollution.
In a press statement issued from here today, the Speaker said that stubble burning is very inimical to the environment and people's health. He said that burning of stubble waste not only pollutes the environment, but also causes many unpleasant incidents. He said that burning the stubble pollutes the priceless treasures of nature, air, water and earth, which can cause various diseases to humans.
Sandhwan said that the Punjab government is giving 50 percent subsidy to the farmer and 80 percent subsidy to the society. He said that the farmers should take advantage of this subsidy and take full advantage of the opportunity by buying straw rakes and baler machines etc. for straw management.
The speaker appealed to the farmers of the state to become partners in the efforts of the state government for environmental protection and asked them to be a part of the public interest campaign of not burning stubble.
Pertinently, the Punjab government has provided about 24,000 CRMs machines including surface seeders on subsidy to the farmers of the state during the current crop season for prevention of incidents of paddy stubble burning and effective management of crop residues.
