Special fund set up for welfare of persons with disabilities
Officials and NGOs should make sincere efforts to provide maximum benefits to eligible persons: ADC(D)
Ludhiana: The Union government has set up a special fund for providing financial benefits to Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Mrs Amrit Singh informed that this fund would be spent on the welfare of PwD's.
She informed that this fund would be used to organise exhibitions and workshops to showcase the products including paintings, handicrafts etc of PwD's. She said this scheme also aims to support persons with benchmark disabilities who have excelled in sports or fine arts/music/dance at state level to participate in national/international events.
Mrs Amrit Singh informed that support certain exclusive needs of persons with high support needs as recommended by assessment boards on specific recommendation by the states on a case to case basis. Assistance from the fund for the same event can be granted only once to a PwD. She appealed to the officials from different departments as well as NGOs make sure that maximum benefit of this scheme is provided to the eligible beneficiaries.
