Chandigarh, October 10, 2024: Department of Library & Information Science, Panjab University, Chandigarh, today conducted special lectures on “ICT Tools for Libraries” and “Knowledge Management”.
Dr.Pokuri Venkata Rao, Fellow (Knowledge Management) Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration, Chandigarh was the resource person for the session. Faculty members, research scholars, and students of the B.Lib.I.Sc and M.Lib.I.Sc were present in the event.
In the beginning, Prof. Rupak Chakravarty, chairperson, introduced the speaker. Dr. Pokuri Rao began his lecture by discussing information overload and then continued with an explanation of data, information, knowledge, and the concepts of knowledge management and information management. Further, he demonstrated the technological tools to store manage or communicate information. He also focused on barcode technologies, electronic resources, library management software, smart cards for members identification, information and communication technologies, library websites, and OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog). He suggested students to read the book titled “The World is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-First Century” by Thomas Friedman.
