A special lecture on “Learning from frog: Education for sustainable development”, was organised on Wednesday, in the department of Education, Panjab university, Chandigarh.
Chandigarh, February 7, 2024: A special lecture on “Learning from frog: Education for sustainable development”, was organised on Wednesday, in the department of Education, Panjab university, Chandigarh.
The lecture started with a brief introduction of the speaker Dr. Devinder Sharma, stated by Ms. Lalita (Research Scholar). The lecture was attended by esteemed guests including Prof. Vikas Kumar (CRRID), Prof. Jayanti Dutta (HRDC), Prof. Mamta Garg (CDOE), Dr. Kulwinder Singh (UBS), Prof. Pampa Mukherji (Pol. Sci.) and the faculty from department of Education.
The distinguished speaker for the event Dr. Devinder Sharma who hails from the agriculture domain but is also an environmentalist, a renowned journalist and a policy expert, enlightened the audience with his thought provoking and insightful lecture on sustainable development. The event started on a cheerful note addressing the students. He focused on the essence of sustainability and the role and contribution of every individual in today’s idea of sustainable development. He encouraged the youth to look beyond textbook content and come out of its limited exposure. He highlighted the importance of raising the right question. In his speech he also stressed upon the collective responsibility of the society to bring a change in the present scenario. The lecture further drew attention upon discussions held on large scale like COP, IPCC which focused only on the GDP related growth, but not on environment and sustainability.
The highly interactive session was concluded with a vote of thanks given by the chairperson, Department of Education, Prof. Satvinderpal Kaur and a token of appreciation was felicitated by Prof. Vandana Mehra (Dept. of Edu., PU).
