Special lecture on theme “Engendering Daughter as Reflected in Literary Traditions of Ancient India”
Department of History and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Centre organized a special lecture on the theme “Engendering Daughter as Reflected in Literary Traditions of Ancient India” by Prof. G.C. Chauhan ( Department of Evening Studies and Multidisciplinary Research Centre).
Chandigarh, February 14, 2024: Department of History and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Centre organized a special lecture on the theme “Engendering Daughter as Reflected in Literary Traditions of Ancient India” by Prof. G.C. Chauhan ( Department of Evening Studies and Multidisciplinary Research Centre).
Lecture begin with the introduction by Dr. Jasbir Singh, (Chairperson, Department of History), followed by presenting guest with gift of token. Prof. Sheena Pall (Coordinator of B.R. Ambedkar Centre) gave a brief introduction about Ambedkar Centre and the lecture. Prof. Chauhan has highlighted the new perspectives for studies of women in India’s texts like Manusmriti, Dharamshastra and Grihiyasutras. The lecture was followed by the question/answer session that led to discussion on important topics like Kanyadan, Gaudan.Dr. Ashish Kumar, Dr. Priyatosh Sharma and Prof. Anju Suri also participated in the discussion.
Faculties of other Department were also presented in the Lecture, including Dr. Mrityunjay, Prof. Renu Thakur, Prof. Gurmeet Singh. The lecture was summarized by Dr. Priyatosh Sharma, followed by Vote of thanks.
The lecture/discussion was followed by the Rangoli Competition organized by History Society of Department of History to celebrate Basant Panchmi. A total of 8 teams participated in the competition. Theme of the Rangoli was Basant Panchmi. The winners were given prizes by the Society.
