Department of Library & Information Science Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, today organised a special lecture on “Information Retrieval as the Substances of Librarianship Profession” and “Understanding Metadata: Concept in Library and Information Science”. Prof. Nirmal Kumar Swain, of Department of Library and Information Science, Vivekananda Library, Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak, was the resource person.

Chandigarh November 11, 2024: Department of Library & Information Science Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, today organised a special lecture on “Information Retrieval as the Substances of Librarianship Profession” and “Understanding Metadata: Concept in Library and Information Science”. Prof. Nirmal Kumar Swain, of Department of Library and Information Science, Vivekananda Library, Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak, was the resource person. 

Prof. Swain explained how information retrieval, or finding and organising information, is a key skill in librarianship, especially as digital resources grow and described concept of Metadata. 

Munish Grewal, student of the department, introduced the resource person and theme of the lecture. All the faculty members, research scholars, and students of the Bachelor of Library and Information Science and Master of Library and Information Science participated in the event.
