Special Lecture on 'Swachhta' at GMHS RC2 Dhanas

Chandigarh, December 1, 2018: One of the major issues of modern society is management of its waste. Even organized cities like Chandigarh are suffering from this ailment despite of hundred percent collection from door to door and various innovative solutions including dedicated modern waste management plant. The segregation of dry and wet waste has been a thorn in heel. Somehow the solution needs to involve common masses and segregation of waste at the source not destination.

Sensing the urgency of this issue Social Substance from Panjab University is contributing its bit and today organized a special lecture 'Waste management and Swachhta Mission' at Government Model High School RC-II, Dhanas. Lecture was delivered by Er.Anil Thakur, Divisional Engineer, Horticulture Division, Panjab University to about sixty students of 9th Class. It was interactive session and Mr. Thakur emphasized that soon it would be become criminal not segregating waste at source. Children were quizzed about the measure announced by Chandigarh Administration and gladly many of them were found to be aware.

Ms.Ravinder Kaur, Principal of the school initiated a pledge that was followed by the student to start segregating waste at source be it school or home. They were determined to convert wet waste into compost and recycle dry waste. Dr. Arun Bansal from Social Substance coordinated the event.
