Chandigarh, April 5, 2022: Population Research Centre, Panjab University in collaboration with the Department of Laws organised a special Lecture titled “Census and Its Relevance to Academia in the This Data Age” at ICSSR seminar hall in Panjab University.
Prof. Kumool Abbi, Director Population Research Centre initiated the proceedings and highlighted the activities of PRC including how to use census data for policy inputs.
Prof. Devinder Singh, Chairperson, Department of Laws gave the welcome address and highlighted the role of census data in constitutional provisions and population law.
Another Lecture was delivered by Dr. Abhishek Jain , IAS, Directorate of Census Operation/ Director of Citizen Registration Panjab and Chandigarh and Ms. Virender Kaur, Research Officer( Map), Directorate of Census Operations Panjab. Abhishek Jain along with Varinder Kaur explained the role of GIS application and methodologies adopted for first digital Census of India.
He told that this is first time in history of census that self enumeration has been initiated while Virender explained the steps for self enumeration along with other census data indicators.
The lecture was presided by Prof. Laishram Ladusingh, Vice- Chancellor, Bodoland, University, Kokrajhar Assam and Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University was the Chief Patron for the seminar. Prof. Ladusingh highlighted importance of censes data and its use in policy making. He talked About SRS, CRS and other GIS parameters. Prof Supinder Kaur vote of thanks delivered the Vote of Thanks.
