Special lecture to commemorate Jallianwala Bagh Massacre
The Department of History and Ancient Indian History, Culture & Archaeology, Panjab University jointly organized a Special lecture today to commemorate the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre (1919).
Chandigarh, April 10, 2024: The Department of History and Ancient Indian History, Culture & Archaeology, Panjab University jointly organized a Special lecture today to commemorate the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre (1919).
The lecture was delivered by Dr. Amandeep Bal, Professor Jallianwala Bagh Chair, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. Professor Bal who has researched and published extensively on this period of Indian History contextualized the massacre of Amritsar within the economic and political situation of the early twentieth century. She also traced the chain of events which immediately preceded the tragedy on Baisakhi day on 13th April, 1919 which continues to symbolize the dark face of British Imperialism. Professor Bal’s latest book on Jallianwallah Bagh tragedy is scheduled to be released shortly.
The event was well attended by postgraduate students, research scholars and faculty members of the University. The introductory remarks were given by Professor Paru Bal Sidhu, Chairperson, Department of Ancient Indian History, Culture & Archaeology, Panjab University. The theme was introduced by Dr. Jasbir Singh, Chairperson, Dept. of History, Panjab University, Chandigarh. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Ashish Kumar, Faculty member of Department of History.
