Special lectures organised by Panjab university department on “Digital transition and libraries, Media and information literacy in the digital age”
The Department of Library and Information Science, Panjab University, Chandigarh, successfully organized special lectures on “Digital transition and libraries and Media and information literacy in the digital age” today.
Chandigarh, January 29, 2024: The Department of Library and Information Science, Panjab University, Chandigarh, successfully organized special lectures on “Digital transition and libraries and Media and information literacy in the digital age” today.
Dr. Shiv Kumar, Chairperson of the department, welcomed the resource person and participants. Prof.H.P.S. Kalra from Department of Library and Information Science, Punjabi University, Patiala was Resource Person.Jasbir Singh, Research Scholar of department anchored the event. Prof.H.P.S. Kalra highlighted the importance of privacy, data security, and personal data protection bill.
Furthermore he emphasised on the importance of media information literacy, monopoly of knowledge, Orwellian systems and the dangerous phenomena like deep fakes and data privacy. He also gave insights on monopolisation, commercialization and commodification of knowledge and information of data by corporate giants.
Prof. H.P.S. Kalra also talked about predatory publishing, UGC care list, sustainable goals by UNESCO, and Five laws of media & information literacy.
Question and answer session was held. About 75 participations attended the lectures. At the end, Jasbir Singh, Research Scholar of department, presented vote of thanks.
