Chandigarh, September 23, 2012: The special summary revision of electoral rolls as on 01.01.2013 is scheduled to take place from 1st October to 31st October 2012 in the state of Punjab.

Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the chief electoral officer Punjab today said that the draft publication of photo electoral roll would also take place on 01.10.2012. He said that all citizens who will attain the age of 18 on 01.01.2013 would be eligible to register themselves as voters, provided they are not disqualified to do so for any reason. They could apply in form no 6 to concerned EROs or BLOs. He said that the NRIs would have to apply in form 6 A. If a deletion was necessary, then form 7 can be filled and if there was a change in the residence within an assembly constituency then form 8A could be submitted, he added.   He said that if a mistake has to be corrected, form 8 can be used.

The reading of the relevant part/section of the photo electoral roll in Gram Sabhas/Local Bodies and RWA meetings etc and verification would take place 6th and 9th October. BLOs will be available in the polling booths on 7th, 14th and 21st October, 2012 along with any booth level agents put up by political parties to accept claims and objections. In order to facilitate the citizens to know their status, the draft rolls would be uploaded to the website on 01.10.2012 and a search facility would also be available. An SMS query search based on the EPIC number of the voter I-Card is also likely to be available from 3 October 2012.

He further said that The ECI has issued directions to all state Governments that no officer doing electoral work should be transferred between 1st October 2012 to 5th January 2013. In case a transfer is necessary then the ECIs permission would be required.

He said in 15 lakh eligible citizens have not yet enrolled themselves as voters in Punjab. All such citizens are requested to register themselves as voters and be a part of the political and democratic process. He said that Special Nodal Officers has been appointed in each educational institution to facilitate the citizens who have just become eligible to be a voter.
