Ludhiana, March 5, 2025: A special talk on the life and legacy of Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India, was organized at Gujranwala Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology (GGNIMT), Ghumar Mandi Ludhiana. The event, which brought together a distinguished panel of speakers, was a tribute to Dr. Singh's monumental contributions to India’s economic growth and his remarkable leadership during some of the country's most challenging times.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Dr. SP Singh, President of Gujranwala Khalsa Educational Council and former Vice Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar. Dr. Singh highlighted the transformative steps taken by Dr. Manmohan Singh throughout his career, focusing on the reforms that significantly contributed to India’s economic growth. He spoke about the pivotal role played by Dr. Singh in shaping India’s financial landscape, particularly during the economic liberalization era.
The gathering was further graced by the presence of S. Harsharan Singh Narula, General Secretary of Gujranwala Khalsa Educational Council, who shared his thoughts on the impact of Dr. Manmohan Singh’s leadership on India’s progress.
Professor Dr. R.S. Bawa, Pro-Chancellor of Chandigarh University, delivered an insightful session on the life and legacy of Dr. Manmohan Singh. Dr. Bawa emphasized Dr. Singh’s crucial role in navigating the Indian economy through the tumultuous period of the 1991 economic crisis. He reflected on the far-reaching economic policies Dr. Singh implemented, including liberalization, privatization, and globalization, which laid the foundation for India's economic rise. Dr. Bawa further discussed how Dr. Singh’s tenure as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014 reinforced India’s position as a global economic player.
Renowned journalist, S. Hamir Singh, also spoke about Dr. Manmohan Singh's remarkable life and contributions. He touched upon Dr. Singh’s quiet yet resilient leadership, his unwavering commitment to India’s development, and the manner in which he tackled adversity with grace and wisdom. Singh recalled Dr. Singh’s reputation as a man of integrity and his ability to make tough decisions for the benefit of the nation. His honest leadership style and dedication to national welfare were deeply appreciated, both within India and abroad.
Professor Manjit S. Chhabra, Director of GGNIMT, expressed his deepest respect and admiration for Dr. Manmohan Singh, acknowledging the indelible mark he has left on India’s economic trajectory. Professor Chhabra also lauded Dr. Singh’s statesmanship and contributions to the global economy.
Dr. Harpreet Singh, Principal of GGNIMT, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the speakers and attendees for their participation.
