Spillway gates of Beas Dam opened

Talwara Township/Jalandhar, August 18, 2013: Due to heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh, the spillway gates of the Beas Dam were opened yesterday and the discharge from the spill way gates was 12,000 cusses.

As the level of the Pong Dam reservoir was about 1,381 feet the total discharge of water from Pong Dam was 30,000 cusses as 18,000 was released through machines for generating electricity.

Twelve 12 gates of the Shahnehar Headwork Barrage were open for smooth outflow of water from the Shahnehar Headwork reservoir and about 13,000 cusses of water was being released to Mukerian Hydel canal and the balance to the Beas river as stated by Navin Chander, SDO, Shahnehar Head work Sub Division, Talwara Township, on being contact.

People residing near Beas river told that due to rains the underground water had increased.
