Kaithal, December 8, 2023: The Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine Department at Fortis Hospital Mohali has successfully treated several sportspersons of national and international repute for sports injuries through ACL Reconstruction Surgery, Hybrid ACL Surgery, Keyhole Arthroscopy Surgery etc. Post surgery, the athletes have performed better and bagged medals for the country at various sports tournaments.
Dr Manit Arora, Senior Consultant, Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine, Fortis Hospital Mohali, has operated upon Indian Hockey Team Captain Harmanpreet Singh and national-level record holder Harmilan Bains, which accelerated their performance and enabled them to bag medals at the Tokyo Olympics and recently held Asian Games.
Dr Arora operated upon Indian Hockey Team Vice-Captain Harmanpreet Singh, who underwent a surgery for Anterior Cruciate (ACL) and Meniscus Tear. Post surgery, Harmanpreet contributed to India’s win at the Tokyo Olympics and also won a gold medal at the Asian Games.
Giving information, Dr Arora said, “Anterior Cruciate (ACL) injury is a common knee injury and mostly found in athletes who play hockey, football, volleyball, basketball etc. Harmanpreet was in doubt for the Tokyo Olympics due to an ACL and meniscus tear. Post-surgery, he became the highest goal scorer for India in the Olympics, and later bagged a Gold medal in the Asian games as Captain. His story should inspire many others that one can return to the even after an ACL surgery.”
Dr Arora has also treated Harmilan Bains, who won two Asian Games Silver medals in track and field athletics. “Harmilan underwent a Knee Arthroscopy Surgery, a keyhole surgery done to fix knee injuries through two small incisions on the skin. She resumed training practice two weeks after the operation and her performance has drastically improved ever since,” added Dr Arora.
Giving information on Knee arthroscopy and ACL surgery, Dr Arora, said, “Conducting both the surgeries on players requires skill and precision. Several treatment options are available to treat ACL injuries and most athletes recover in a span of 6-12 months. Keyhole Arthroscopy Surgery leads to quick recovery and helps athletes return to sports faster. The procedure enables patients to walk on the next day of the operation.”
Fortis Hospital Mohali has established itself as a Centre for Excellence in Sports Medicine where renowned sportspersons undergo surgeries with excellent outcomes.
