Ludhiana, March 13, 2014: As part of the World Kidney Day, SPS Apollo Hospitals, Ludhiana - leading healthcare services provider of the region, organized a walkathon to raise awareness, encourage prevention and education to fight this disease and overcome this major public health issue. This year the focus is on Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and aging. CKD can develop at any age but it becomes more common with increasing age.

On this occasion, SPS Apollo Hospitals, Ludhiana organized a Walkathon in the city of Ludhiana, in which various patients of the hospital along with Kidney Transplant patients took part. All the participants were given t- shirts and refreshments. As part of the initiative, Dr. Rahul Kohli, Senior Consultant- Department of Nephrology, SPS Apollo Hospitals , talked about Kidney diseases as silent killers, which largely affects the quality of life, and what measures can be taken to reduce the risk of kidney diseases. Also Dr. Bakshish Singh, Senior Consultant- Department of Nephrology, SPS Apollo Hospitals, added, “We must encourage systematic screening of all patients with diabetes and hypertension for Chronic Kidney Disease. Also it is very important to detect and reduce the risk of CKD. The doctors also encouraged on the fact that- Transplantation as a best-outcome option for kidney failure, and the act of organ donation as a life-saving initiative.  Also present on the occasion was Dr. Vikas Kumar- Department of Urology.
