STAGE SET AT PAU, PUNJAB CHIEF MINISTER AND AGRI-MINISTER TO ATTEND KISAN MELA
The stage is set at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) to host the two-day Kisan Mela on September 14 and 15. Sardar Gurmeet Singh Khuddian, Agriculture Minister, Punjab will inaugurate the mela on September 14, while Sardar Bhagwant Mann, Chief Minister of Punjab, will be the chief guest on the concluding day that is September 15.
Ludhiana, September 13, 2023: The stage is set at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) to host the two-day Kisan Mela on September 14 and 15. Sardar Gurmeet Singh Khuddian, Agriculture Minister, Punjab will inaugurate the mela on September 14, while Sardar Bhagwant Mann, Chief Minister of Punjab, will be the chief guest on the concluding day that is September 15.
Urging the farming community to participate in big number in the mela, Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, said: “This University has played a pivotal role in boosting the socio-economic conditions of the farmers through cost-effective technologies, and by supporting agro-based industries and generating employment opportunities for the youths.” Being a Mother of Green Revolution, leader in conservation agriculture, pioneer in apiculture and making Punjab a hub of farm machinery, PAU has always been striving hard to mitigate the effects of climate change and address natural resource depletion, he observed.
Dr AS Dhatt, Director of Research, remarked that the Kisan Mela was instrumental in transferring new technologies to the farmers who rely on PAU’s guidance as well as were the source of stimulation for the University. “Technologies are disseminated through live demonstrations, exhibitions and technical sessions,” he added.
Dr GS Buttar, Director of Extension Education, informed that the fruit plants; flowers (annual and ornamental); nursery of medicinal, shade and traditional trees of Punjab; biofertilizer; seed of cereal and oilseed crops; vegetable kits and seedlings; vinegar carbonated beverages and Kombucha; processed products (multigrain atta, pickles, ready to serve fruit juice, fruit squashes and flaxseed cookies) and farm literature will be sold at the mela. Besides, agro-industrial exhibition, soil and water testing, and cultural programme will be the main attractions, he added.
