Chandigarh, October 9, 2023: India’s first standalone health insurance company Star Health and Allied Insurance Co. Ltd., introduces Surrogacy Cover and Oocyte Donor Cover in its popular women centric policy, Star Women Care Insurance Policy. This addition is a significant cover that addresses a growing need under Assisted Reproduction Treatment, bringing health insurance cover to surrogate mothers and Oocyte donors while also providing peace of mind to expectant couples. Star Health has included these covers at no additional cost to policyholders.
The policy offers inpatient hospitalization coverage for post-partum delivery complications incurred by the surrogate mother for a 36-month period under the Surrogacy cover. Additionally, Star Health Insurance now provides Oocyte Donor coverage, indemnifying inpatient hospitalization expenses for complications arising from Assisted Reproductive Treatment for a 12-month period.
Surrogacy cover will commence from the date of initiation of the treatment or procedure. In the unfortunate case of a “Miscarriage due to Accident”, Star Health will pay a lump sum amount to the surrogate mother in accordance with the terms of the policy.
Commenting on the addition to the policy, Anand Roy, MD and CEO, Star Health and Allied Insurance Co. Ltd. said, “We are happy to announce the inclusion of Surrogacy Cover and Oocyte Donor cover in our Star Women Care Insurance Policy, reaffirming our commitment to women's health and well-being. This addition reflects our dedication to continually enhancing our policies to meet the evolving healthcare needs of our customers. The policy is meticulously crafted to cater to women's unique needs at every stage of their lives, offering them reassurance and easing concerns about escalating medical expenses. “
The policy requires that certain terms & conditions are followed for the cover to be applicable, namely, the intending couple, surrogate mother and treating hospital must adhere to the guidelines of the Surrogacy Act and ART Act. Also, Surrogacy and Oocyte donation should be carried out at recognized centers registered with the National ART and Surrogacy Registry.
“With this enhancement and our ongoing commitment to innovation, we empower women to take control of their health insurance needs, resting assured that they have access to the best possible medical care,” added Roy.
