Ludhiana, October 21, 2012: ONGC defeated Baba Farid Club Chandigarh by a convincing margin of 7-4 in the opening game of the Perfect Real Estate “All India Sahibzada Ajit Singh Hockey Champion Trophy 2012” at Prithipal Singh Hockey Stadium, Punjab Agricultural University under floodlights on Sunday.

It is the first tournament at the international level Astroturf at the Prithipal Hockey Stadium under the floodlights, in which Speaker Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Charanjit Singh Atwal inaugurated the hockey tournament.

In the opening match, the first goal of the All India Sahibzada Ajit Singh Hockey Champion Trophy 2012 was scored by Aijbekka of ONGC in the seventh minute of the match. But it was Sehajpreet Singh of Baba Farid Club (BFC) who equalized the score with the help of a field goal in 28th minute of the match. Major Singh of BFC took a lead by scoring another goal in 34th minute of the match.

ONGC equalized the score by 2-2 in 37th minute of the match when Tyron Perairea scored with the help of a penalty corner. Another goal was scored by ONGC in the 45th minute by Diwakar Ram. In 47th minute, Kamaldeep Singh of BFC scored a field goal and the scored was leveled to 3-3. ONGC took lead when Gurjant Singh scored a field goal in 48th minute of match.

BFC were quick to level the score in 51st minute when the Sehajpreet Singh scored a field goal. In 55th minute, Ravinder Singh of ONGC scored a goal with the help of the penalty corner. Two goals were scored by ONGC in the 69th minute of the match by Jayant and Gagandeep respectively. In the end it was ONGC, which defeated BFC with a score of 7-4.

In the inaugural match of day, Punjab National Bank outplayed Namdhari XI with the score 3-1. From the Punjab National Bank Lakhwinder Singh drew the first blood in just seventh minute of the game to provide his team lead over the rivals with the score 1-0 from the penalty corner being awarded to their team. Hardeep Singh further enhanced the lead in the 12th minute of the game to take the score 2-0 and Eshiesh pal further took the lead 3-0 by dibbling the ball well from the center to the goal post to hit a field goal.

However, for the Namdhari XI, the only saving grace was their maiden field goal hit by Dhian Chand in the 32nd minute of the game. In inaugural match, Namdhari XI lost to the Punjab National Bank with the score 3-1.

The Olympian Mukhbinder Singh, Hardeep Grewal and Ramandeep Grewal were present on the occasion.
