STATE-LEVEL FUNCTION ON OCCASION OF “SATYAGRAH DIWAS” HELD TODAY
Ludhiana, June 7, 2019: On the occasion of 150th year Birth Anniversary celebrations of father of nation, Mahatma Gandhi, the Punjab government has been organising several functions throughout the year. A state-level function on the occasion of Satyagrah Diwas was organised today in which Punjab Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Mr Bharat Bhushan Ashu was the chief guest, while Ludhiana MP Mr Ravneet Singh Bittu was the guest of honour. On this occasion, students of Shaheed-E-Azam Sukhdev Thapar Memorial Government Senior Secondary Smart School, Bharat Nagar, also presented speeches on the life of father of nation, Mahatma Gandhi. While addressing the gathering on the occasion, Mr Bharat Bhushan Ashu urged everyone to follow the path shown by Mahatma Gandhi. He said that Mahatma Gandhi used non-cooperation as the political weapon against the British Rule successfully. The cabinet minister told that the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi would continue to inspire the people and would help the masses to contribute for the society's development. He further told that a real tribute to Mahatma Gandhi would be to follow the path shown by him and appealed the people to emulate his basic ideology to bring transformation in the society. MP Mr Ravneet Singh Bittu said that it is because of Mahatma Gandhi and our other freedom fighters that we are breathing in free India. He said that Mahatma Gandhi had contributed for the freedom of the country and his life and philosophy also played an important role in bringing reforms in the society. He said that the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi are inspiration for our society and the younger generations should read his writings if they want to succeed in life. On this occasion, ADC (General) Mr Iqbal Singh Sandhu honoured Mr Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Mr Ravneet Singh Bittu, Payal MLA Mr Lakhvir Singh Lakha and Mayor Mr Balkar Singh Sandhu on behalf of the district administration. Prominent among those present on the occasion included DCC (Urban) President Mr Ashwani Sharma, DCC (Rural) President Mr Karanjit Singh “Soni” Galib, Councillors Mr Sunny Bhalla, Dr Jai Parkash Sharma, Mr Harkaran Singh Vaid, Mr Dilraj Singh, Mrs Poonam Malhotra, Mr Baljinder Singh Bunty, Chairman PPCC Economic and Political Planning Cell Mr Ishwarjot Singh Cheema, Senior Congress leaders Mr Darshan Singh Shankar, Mr Parminder Mehta, Mr Ramesh Joshi, besides several others.
