The two-day state-level Sri Krishna Janmashtami festival at the historic Shri Brijraj Swami Temple in Nurpur, Kangra district, commenced on Monday with a grand and vibrant procession. The procession, which began at Chaugan Maidan and culminated at Shri Brijraj Swami Temple, was led by Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa.

Nurpur/Dharamshala, August 26, 2024: The two-day state-level Sri Krishna Janmashtami festival at the historic Shri Brijraj Swami Temple in Nurpur, Kangra district, commenced on Monday with a grand and vibrant procession. The procession, which began at Chaugan Maidan and culminated at Shri Brijraj Swami Temple, was led by Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa.

Devotees lined up from the early hours of the morning to visit the historic temple. The occasion saw a large influx of devotees from across the state and beyond, who filled the air with devotional hymns and chants, creating a deeply spiritual atmosphere.

The Deputy Commissioner offered prayers at the temple and actively participated in the traditional Matki breaking competition.

In his address, the Deputy Commissioner extended his Janmashtami greetings to all, expressing his fortune to participate in the state-level celebrations and have the darshan of Lord Krishna. He highlighted the significance of the festival, dedicated to Lord Shri Krishna, who imparted the timeless teachings of the Bhagavad Gita for the welfare of humanity. He urged all devotees to celebrate the festival with grandeur, fostering a spirit of brotherhood and harmony within society.

The festival grounds were alive with various attractions, including swings, stalls, and other entertainment activities, which drew enthusiastic crowds. The procession featured vibrant tableaux presented by different temple committees, adding to the festive spirit.

The first cultural evening of the Janmashtami fair was a highlight, with performances by school children, artists from the District Language Officer's office, and the Himachal Police Band "Harmony of Pines," making it a memorable event.

 Former MLA Ajay Mahajan, SDM Gursimar Singh, SP Ashok Ratna, and other officials from the administration, along with members of the Shri Brijraj Swami Temple Committee and other dignitaries, were present on the occasion to witness and participate in the festivities.
