The Department of Economics, Panjab University, successfully concluded its four-day 'Student Awareness and Sensitisation Programme.' The final sessions were delivered by Dr. Meena Sharma, Director, Central Placement Cell, Panjab University, and Rasneet Kanvar, Director, BelWo Services India Private Limited, focusing on career readiness and professional skills.


Chandigarh, August 30, 2024: The Department of Economics, Panjab University, successfully concluded its four-day 'Student Awareness and Sensitisation Programme.' The final sessions were delivered by Dr. Meena Sharma, Director, Central Placement Cell, Panjab University, and Rasneet Kanvar, Director, BelWo Services India Private Limited, focusing on career readiness and professional skills.

Dr. Meena Sharma discussed the role of the Central Placement Cell in addressing the skill gaps between students and industry requirements. She emphasised the importance of maintaining continuous contact with alumni for networking and career advancement and suggested using LinkedIn effectively for professional connections. She also highlighted the need for a strong foundation in core subjects, well-crafted resumes, and good networking skills. She encouraged early career preparation and discussed various job opportunities available to students.

Rasneet Kaur delivered a lecture on 'Professional Aptitude,' providing students with insights into the placement process. She covered three key interview questions regarding career choice, future aspirations, and identifying personal gaps. She outlined key skills valued by employers, including communication, problem-solving, adaptability, critical thinking, leadership, time management, technical proficiency, teamwork, emotional intelligence, and networking which could be developed through competitions, networking, hands-on experience, and maintaining a professional online presence. She concluded with practical tips, emphasising self-awareness, adaptability, and effective utilisation of student life. 

The programme concluded with an interactive Q&A session. Dr. Smita Sharma, Chairperson of the Department of Economics, expressed gratitude to the speakers for their valuable insights and encouraged students to actively apply the knowledge gained for their personal and professional development.

The four-day programme inspired and motivated the incoming B.A. and M.A. students, giving them a strong foundation to begin their university journey with a focus on academic excellence.
