Students’ charity drive a big hit on UHF campus
The charity event on the collection of old clothes organized by the Department of Business Management at the Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry (UHF) concluded on Thursday. The drive, which was organized for third straight year received a good response from students, faculty and staff of the university with over 75 new blankets and new clothes for newborns and young mothers being collected. Besides, the volunteers managed to collect warm clothing weighing over five quintals, which will now find its way to the poor and needy. Student Welfare Officer Dr SK Gupta, who inaugurated the event, lauded the students for their noble initiative. He hoped that the students imbibe the valuable learning from organizing this charity event and help the needy whenever they get the chance. Dr Gupta added that such events were an important part of student life as it not only helps to create awareness about our social problems, but also gives a chance to hone management skills. Dr KK Raina, Head, Department of Business Management said that the idea behind the campaign was to promote the habit of charity among students as it is an integral part of learning along with academics. “We will conduct a survey to identify workers, slum dwellers and the destitute who are in need of winter clothing. The students will be overseeing the distribution. The new clothes will be donated to young mothers,” said Dr Raina. Earlier, the students worked hard to promote their activity at the university campus. The response was fantastic, with many employees and students bringing new blankets and clothes to the collection counter. The efforts of the students received praise and support from the faculty and staff. The students were hopeful that their small contributions could help to make the lives of several people better.
